Hello Chorale Members,

Hope you had a great 4th of July...took some time to be thankful for the
freedoms we enjoy.

Don't forget to come back to chorale this week....

If you've had some friends that have been considering singing with us, why
not give them a call and remind them that this would be a good week to give
us a try. (Or, even better, bring them to rehearsal with you???)

One thing I was reminded at the recent conducting seminar in California:
It's impossible to have too many basses or too many altos. Know any?

Some updates:
1) Barb W. is in Montana for the next couple of weeks.
2) Patti K. is recovering from her eye operation..slow but steady
progress...
3) Next concert: Tuesday July 25th 7-8 PM at Friendship village (next to
Banner Desert Samaritan). This concert will include several of our more
'classical style songs' that we have not rehearsed for a while. I'll tell
you more about this concert at rehearsal.
4) Since the concert only lasts for 1 hour, and since the concert is only
about 1/2 mile from Marie Calendar's....I was thinking maybe we could have a
social activity (pie or whatever..) after the concert. We could probably
reserve the banquet room where we met last November. Be thinking about it,
I'll survey the group this Tuesday...and try to have a few more details
about room availability..etc.

Don't forget to practice your new singing exercise introduced at our last
rehearsal..5 seconds at a time maximum...don't overdo it :)

Something to think about: Kathy and I recently had dinner with some folks
from church (very friendly/outgoing types)who were remarking that, having
attended for several years, very few others from church reached out/were
friendly/got acquainted with them... Please don't let that happen in the
chorale. On a related 'tangent', the pastor was talking Sunday about the
fact that when someone suffers a loss at church, people are very friendly
and supportive at first, but often forget about being friendly and concerned
after some time elapses.

In a similar fashion, when new folks join the chorale, most of you are great
about meeting them, introducing your selves, etc. But, after a few months
go by, you may not even remeber their names. It might very well be that,
for some of the singers in the group, this is their 'church'. Wherever you
are...don't wait for others to be friendly...you make the first
move...introduce yourself...get to know others...and don't get discouraged
if they don't always respond immediately. Having someone be friendly can be
an 'unfamiliar' experience...so it make take time for them to get used to
the idea that you really care :)

See you Tuesday,

Bruce
