Good Morning Chorale,
Hope you've been enjoying the great weather!
Thanks to everyone who participated in the concert at Shadow Mountain
Sunday evening. It was a bit frightening as many of our singers were
missing in action, but the concert went well. I knew the number of
singers would be small...I didn't know we would have only 34
singers...23 singers were missing. The audience was very enthusiastic
and supportive and I appreciate everyone's willingness to stand on the
risers in unusual places (very low ceiling). Thanks for
'singing-by-faith' when the room acoustics were very 'dead'. One lady
came up to me after the concert and said that when you sang "Written In
Red," she felt 'embraced' by the music; she was very moved by the song.
The audience was extremely generous in their offering. Thanks much to
Craig for hauling the risers...it's never much fun.
I would like to remind you all to please let me know when you cannot
participate in the concerts. You may not think it takes much time to
plan the standing charts, but it is actually a fairly big job. I
usually wait until about 2-4 hours prior to concert-time to see if there
are any last-minute surprises for attendance, so you can let me know
ahead of time.
Also, I would greatly appreciate it if you call me or send an email
regarding your plans. Occasionally, singers tell me in person on a
Tuesday night---when there's lots of conversations, etc happening----and
it's hard to recall who said what. Also, it's better to communicate with
me rather than with Kathy; she usually has additional responsibilities
and may also forget. At the last minute for last night's concert I had
to adjust for an additional 6-singer absences...moving empty chairs,
shifting singers, etc. I prefer to avoid such additional stress prior
to concerts.
Again, thanks to those of you who always send me emails about your
absences....I really do appreciate it.
And by the way, it never hurts to remind me more than once if you think
I may have forgotten :-).
Just a reminder: As the chorale grows, you may be tempted to think it
doesn't matter if you miss...WRONG! If half the group thought that
way...and acted on that thought, we'd have half our singers missing.
You're all important. Please remember that. Also, if you provide rides
for others to attend, but cannot attend a concert, please let me know
ASAP because I may be able to arrange rides with other singers. That
way we can avoid whole groups of singers being absent.
Our next concert will be on Saturday, October 6th, at 7:30 PM, at 'The
Beatitudes,' in Glendale. They generally have a good number in
attendance and always seem to enjoy the concerts. The room is very
'long' and the acoustics are not great, so we need as many singers as
possible.
In the past, we've discussed having concerts that are a fair distance
from Chandler, and the consensus was that we should continue to
sing...even if it is some effort. However, if we get there with only a
fraction of the chorale, the concert may not be as effective as desired.
I'm already aware of several folks who have conflicts on that date. If
too many are missing, we may have to cancel the concert. Please take a
'realistic' look at your plans and let me know if you cannot attend.
Another reminder: Please avoid wearing cologne or perfume to rehearsals
and concerts.
Thanks for your ongoing support. See you Tuesday...should be a great
rehearsal. (Maybe a bit crowded.)
Bruce
